Today I thought I did not feel like wandering too far, I had been on the laptop looking for jobs and decided I needed a break so out I went in the beautiful NYC weather.
Before I knew it I was at Washington Square Park in Greenwich VillagePerfect spot for a rest and people watch - close to NYC University so always popular
Moving along from here I wandered through Greenwich Village and the West Village
Full of super cute shops, cafes and small parks
This area is home to what we know to be walk up brownstones - residential area in leafy green streets
Stopped into an old church that is now a library
Walked up what seemed like endless winding staircase only to find no bathroom in this library!
Back to the street and more gorgeous walk ups
Some of the front doors are very ornate - suffice to say a wealthy area of Manhattan but not as flashy as 5th Ave
Found my way to the original Magnolia Bakery - famous for its cupcakes
I really had not planned to have one....
After that burst of sugar I made a beeline for the High Line Park Walk that I had heard about
It is a cool arty pathway running down a section of mid west manhattan adjacent to Chelsea
It was once a train track and has now been developed into a fantastic walking path with food stops, great viewing platforms and plenty of seating for people to soak up the Manhattan sun. It is really cool.
Views from the High Line
Remnants of the original rail track
Plenty of green areas and seating to relax in/on
Above One of the lesser attractive yet inhabited apartment blocks that make up this city
Over all what started out to be a quiet day ended with me out discovering and 4 hours passed before I knew it. Still so much more to see.
xx
