Williamsburg

Today I went to Williamsburg which is a groovy area of Brooklyn.  I worked out it is only 2 stops away from me on the Subway and goes across to Brooklyn via a tunnel.  Was at my destination of Bedford Ave within 15 minutes from leaving my home.

I was impressed with Williamsburg and can describe it as the Brunswick Street of Brooklyn.  Took some snaps as to make sure you came along for the ride ....
Groovy Shops with all things unique and interesting
 Graffiti cool coffee shop
Handsome Dan's candy store - Dan did not seem to be working today so I can't confirm if his claims are true.

Possibly a neon pink Baggu canvas bag that I was coveting in Melbourne but would not let myself buy it and thank god I didn't - $69 in Greville Street  compared to $25 in Williamsburg - suffice to say it is now hanging in my room.  Making money!   Get on board with this must have summer carry all - go to www.baggubag.com - they ship to Australia!

A cool all things music and retro electronic store

 Lots of vintage clothing stores
 Roof top bars
 Grunge cafes

Williamsburg is pretty grotty, lots of graffiti and work going on behind garage doors

 Lots of rubble around
View back to Manhattan from Williamsburg - FYI - I was told by a New Yorker that I should not say Manhattan - I should just call it the city.. noted!

A grotty street within Williamsburg - adds to the charm I guess
Some of the buildings and store fronts

Back on Bedford Ave which is the main street and the place is a little tidier and buildings are a little better kept.

Found my way to Beacon's Closet - a huge warehouse of vintage clothing, you could spend hours there and still have a lot to look through.  The clothes are quite good and not too expensive - lots of variety and some really great vintage pieces.  It was packed with little fashionista's looking for that one unique piece.

Found a cute angora cardigan for myself - $14.95 so a bargain that I will wear as NYC has got chilly today - Fall is in the air.

It was time for some food and I am really trying to avoid the junk food so I stopped into a charming pub/cafe for a quick bite  it was full of young hipsters (why were they not at work?)

Avocado on toast - just what the Dr ordered and $10 for that and a diet coke.  Decent size serve.

Some pretty flowers brightening up the street

A cute bit of interactive art that someone had stuck to the subway wall.... sweet answers.
A message to Williamsburg - every one told me you gotta go, its so groovy, yadda yadda yadda - so yes I will go back but I am still convinced that Manhattan (sorry,  the city) is the place for me.
