Week 1 of my NYC job is over though I did go home sick on Wednesday! It would seem I have a filthy cold and chest full of muck so I have been taking my A game to work every day that I could.
Medical assistance of any kind is super expensive here and I don't have any health benefits from my employer as I am a temp so I literally can't afford to get any sicker. Thus it is Friday night at 7pm and I am already in PJ's and ready for a long warm snooze.. only to wake to top up the cough medicine and clear my lungs... living the dream.
The job itself is fine, a little junior for me but I am enjoying the less stress and I am getting paid some hard cold cash so will soak in the experience. I can tick my list for getting a job in NYC - done!

Really????
Tomorrow I start my first NYC job.... and of course I am prepared with all the essential items that a new job requires such as vitamin C boost and cough drops because just in time I have caught some NYC germs and have totally lost my voice and been in bed all day.... perfect timing, I bet they cant wait to meet me tomorrow!
I will soldier on, I start in an admin position with a pharmaceutical company based in Manhattan, hours are 9-5 so really not that taxing at all - I hope! I have just come off 3 months vacation so this working caper may be a shock to my system but the money in the bank will be most welcome. I hope to do some weekend travelling now and get out of the city to investigate the wider areas - Chicago here I come!

Thanksgiving
Thanksgiving is a huge day here - national holiday that officially starts the holiday season here and most people travel home to their families. NYC holds the annual Macy's day parade that runs from 9am to 12noon on thanksgivings, it starts around 77 St on Central Park West and travels down 6th Ave to 34th St Macy's store.
I joined the crowds around 9.30am at 34th street to try and be part of the festivities. I was about 5 hours late to even think I could see much. Eventually the balloons started appearing down 6th ave and with me on tippy toes and zoom on my camera I could get these shots at least...The balloons were cool and there were many more but I only lasted 1 and a half hours here as the crowd was crazy, there were a lot of floats as well with celebrities but I just could not see them so I made an exit and went home to watch the rest of it on TV where I could see everything.
The crowds were big and good to see as it was a great day and great atmosphere.
Later that day I went to the upper west side to a friends house where her and her husband hosted Thanksgiving lunch with all the trimmings...
Was a luxurious 4 hour lunch and a joy to be part of it... best meal I have had in the states to date.
Thanksgiving a a lovely tradition and I think we could adapt something similar in Australia as we need another public holiday and even better in 4 weeks time we all get to sit down to a similar meal again for Christmas... xx

Sweet Happiness
New York has many things to offer but one that has eluded me was lollies... not gummy bears but lollies like we have at home.... in particular wine gums, for those who know me understand my love for them and I have not found any worth eating here in the big apple until ....
I found this happy place on Third Ave
I literally was as happy as a girl in a candy store
The sweet chocolate balls above really were filled with soft chewy cookie dough - too sweet for me
But I did manage to go away with 1/2 pound of sweet jubie pleasures... I will definitely be going back for the wine gums. Luckily I had to walk about 15 more blocks before I was home so I figured eating them while walking was the best option.

Winter wonderland
This week ............
I got a winter grey maniAte 2 more free lindt balls.... I gotta stop going into that store...............
Met 2 lovely authors at a book signing of this lovely cook book... highly recommended
Said no to these delicious looking candy apples... my teeth would have fallen out with all that sugar
Visited the winter wonderland at Bryant park
Considered for 1 second to don some ice skates at Bryant park but moved on... not brave enough yet
I purchased this warm and cosy neck scarf that doubles as a hood in this cold city..
Returned it as I thought it made me look too religious plus it itched my neck like crazy
Discovered and indulged in this 'health scone' - walked an extra few blocks this day
Best of all I met up with these Aussie honeymooners who were doing NYC in mega style. Thanks to their generosity and a slight stuff up by a hotel we enjoyed a fancy Italian dinner at a groovy East Village restaurant for free - just the way I like it. Was great to see these love birds - so much in love, so nice to see. xx
5 weeks until christmas
The city is in full holiday mode - a few christmassy shots from NYC
Street Holiday markets popping up everywhere
Thanksgiving food everywhere - I gotta try some pumpkin pie
Large Christmas baubles - every city should have them......
