5 reasons why I heart NYC

The Brooklyn Bridge offers fantastic views and walking across it  is just magic.
I just can't go past a NYC hotdog....they really are awesome

I love that you can ice skate in Midtown and Central park but I think I love more that my brother wore a collingwood jersey while skating at the Rockerfeller centre - Bogan Chic!

Empire State Building - Touristy but a must for all

Manhattan has the most amazing architecture, something dazzling around every corner

Hurdle Two -mug shot

As part of the Green card process I need to get a police report from the Aussie Police to prove I am an upstanding citizen having done no wrong or injustice in the community - this report cost me $33.00.  This dream of mine just keeps costing me money and I dont even have the VISA yet..... but I am confident that it will be more than worth it.  Awaiting the Police report - I dont think there is anything to be worried about?!

Hurdle One

As part of the process I am required to have a full medical.  There is only one place in Melbourne where you can have this done so I booked in immediately and got an appointment the same week.  I have never had a full medical but I guess it was pretty standard. Medical check including chest X-Ray, bloods and Vaccine check.  Took 3 hours and cost a bundle but it is what it is, the results get sent to me but I cant open them, they must be sealed when I take them to my interview in the consulate. Pretty sure I passed with flying colors......even if I was a little woosie after giving blood but really, who likes needles and the fact that I cried was just plain cute I think.

Let's Get This Party Started

This is where the party started.... 8 years of trying and I have finally won the US green card lottery. It is known as the DV lottery or Diversity Lottery.  Anyone in the world can apply for the chance to get a green card which allows you to work and live anywhere in the States.  I was one of 100,000 people selected from the 15million people worldwide who applied.  Annually the US only give out 50,000 green card/Visa's and I found out about this win in  Aug 2011 and quickly submitted the required documents to hopefully get to the next level.  On 14 April 2012 I received  the news that I had been selected to go the next step and attend an interview at the US embassy - beside myself with fear and excitement I decided to start this blog to track the journey (reality TV has ruined the use of this word) from Melbourne to hopefully NYC.

The VISA will allow me to work and live in America, something that I cant do at the moment unless I married an American which is not on the cards and that would be a wrong reason to marry -I still like to think people marry for love. This VISA would allow me to make it my own way.

So stay tuned, a few months until my interview and a few hurdles to get through before then but they are exciting hurdles to jump.
